HBO revealed today that the critically acclaimed fantasy series based on George R R Martin’s novels will air in April 2019.

Though the episode count for the final season has been slashed to just six – the show’s creators have promised feature length episodes to make sure the conclusion lives up to the tumultuous road before it.

This is not the end of the world of Westeros though, as Naomi Watts recently signed on for an in-development prequel to the Game of Thrones series.

George R R Martin is also still writing books in the A Song of Ice & Fire series (on which the show was based), having been overtaken by the TV series a few years back.

Catch the final season of Game of Thrones next April on Foxtel.
