Melbourne’s electronic trio Huntly have released the title track of their forthcoming album. Low Grade Buzz is a laid back song showcasing the subtle vocals of singer Elspeth Scrine.

Low Grade Buzz is described by the band as an ethereal ballad that communicates life’s bittersweet ache, a blissful comedown the day after a euphoric night.

Singer and songwriter Scrine explains that the song’s origins followed a big night out.

“It was written while I lay in Tempelhof airfield in Berlin after a night out, accompanied by a dinky Yamaha keyboard I bought from an op shop and carried around Europe with me. It’s about fullness and emptiness and being a bit strung out after staying up all night”

Low Grade Buzz is the third single from Huntly’s upcoming album of the same name. It is also the albums closing track. Bandmate Andy McEwan says he loves the way the song ends and closes off their album.

“This song fades into the sounds of the studio where we made most of this album at the end – sounds that to me are the ‘low grade buzz’ of the world we live in – a lawn mower, birds, the train passing, the wind chime… trying to place the listener gently back into the world at the end of the album”

After years of honing their craft and exploring ways of bringing together their wide range of influences, Huntly’s debut albums filled with carefully constructed and deeply personal songs is to be released 15 March 2019.

Tale a listen to the new tune.
