ABC to take transgender kids story 'First Day' to full series

Last year First Day told the story of a transgender student experience her first day at school in her chosen gender, now Screen Australia are funding the project to become a full series that will air on the ABC.

First Day, shared the story of 12-year-old transgender girl Hannah. It was a one-off drama produced by Epic Films screened as part of International Day of the Girl.

The 17 minute project has collected a heap of industry awards and will now be expanded into a full series to screen on ABC TV thanks to funding from government agency Screen Australia.

The film stars Evie MacDonald, who is transgender.  The film was designed to also be used as a teaching aid in schools with additional materials for teachers being made available.
