The coach from The Voice teamed up with some of the contestants from the show to record a slow version of the disco tune to draw attention to the YMCA’s ‘Why Not?’ campaign.

George told The Daily Telegraph that initially he was reluctant to take on the song, but wanted to raise awareness about issues including marriage equality, mental health and youth unemployment.

The YMCA’s Chief Executive told The Guardian that the organisation wanted to be seen as a social movement for younger Australians and highlight the issues that were important to them.

“We had a big conversation about how we can be a social movement for young people,” Melinda Crole, CEO of YMCA in Australia, told Guardian Australia.

Crole said that after speaking to younger people the organisation was embraces the issues they found important including marriage equality.

Check out Boy George’s new version of the tune and log on to the YMCA’s new Why Not? site.
