Rose will star as the dark knight – marking one of the first lesbian superheroes to come to our screens.

The Australian actor previously made her debut as the character in a cross-over TV event featuring DC Comics heroes Arrow, The Flash and more.

“Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman,” the show’s synopsis reads.

“An out lesbian and highly trained fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a saviour, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

Love, Simon director and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina producer Greg Berlanti also serves as executive producer on the pilot episode of Batwoman.
