A Fresh Take for Toby

Toby

Perth singer-songwriter Toby Beard is running at top speed. She’s just returned from a European tour, is on the brink of releasing a new album and is expecting a child with her wife Amy, who she married last November.

“There’s so much rejection in this industry that if you’ve got someone who can help you through it, an extra person there supporting you, it just makes the whole journey a lot easier as well and you feel a lot safer in it. In that way it’s affected me and given me an extra set of balls, without the balls” she laughed.

Toby recorded her album in Seattle with producer Ryan Hadlock, an experience which she said breathed new life into her music: “It’s more of a fresh sound I think. I don’t know. The sounds just feel like they’ve got a different life form at the moment. It’s hard to explain, but it just feels like it really represents what I’m doing at the moment, which is nice.”

Although she’s just returned home, it’s full steam ahead as Toby tours WA throughout September. “I always forget how much I love touring Western Australia. It doesn’t matter how many times you do it you still love it.”
