Gay version of TV classic 'Hart to Hart' in development

hart-to-hart6-001Deadline reports that American TV network NBC is in the early stages of developing a remake of classic TV series ‘Hart to Hart’ where the leads are a gay couple.

‘Hart to Hart’ aired on TV from 1979 to 1984 and kept on rolling for eight tele-movies taking it through to the early ’90s. It followed millionaires Jonathan and Jennifer Hart who lived a jet set life and solved crimes on the side as amateur detectives. Robert Wagner and Stephanie Powers starred in the original series.

The new version of the show is being developed by producer Carol Mendelsohn who was previously the Executive Producer and showrunner of ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’. Meldelsohn also created the spin-off shows ‘CSI: Miami’ and ‘CSI: Cyber’.

It’s described as a modern and sexy retelling of the classic series that focuses on “by the book” attorney Jonathan Hart and free-spirited investigator Dan Hartman, who must balance the two sides of their life: action-packed crime-solving in the midst of newly found domesticity.

The show’s only in development at the  moment so it’s a long way from becoming a reality, but it got us thinking – what other ’80s classic TV shows could be re-worked with same sex leads?
