Natural Health and Therapies

OUTinPerth’s new complementary therapies columnist, Marlene McGann on who she is, what she does and why complementary medicine is important…

I have always been aware of the ‘extrasensory’, and much of my work correlates directly to the evolution of spiritual consciousness and a thirst for higher knowledge by those I encounter. Being aware and mindful of another individual’s energy is really what motivates me. I believe in and operate from the universal standpoint of the Law of Attraction; therefore I understand that much of human suffering stems from belief systems.

I have a background in education and training and have been a qualified Reiki Master/Teacher (Shinpiden) since 2001. I have subsequently built on my skills base and developed methods of working with energy, which I now share in the form of seminars for personal development and self empowerment. I also operate my own business as a teacher and healer incorporating various modalities with a focus on complimentary therapies.

Some of the community based projects I have been involved with on a voluntary basis include introducing Reiki as a healing modality to Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital in support of both the carers and sufferers of cancer; working with HIV/Aids through the ‘Living Well’ program at WAAC (Inc) and other related areas. I have worked with local councils such as the City of Swan to expose the community to the benefits of complimentary therapies. One program was run in conjunction with Women on Wellness Week, and although hard work at the time, the Department of Health issued me with a very nice surprise in the form of a Certificate of Appreciation!

My intention with this column is to provide an overview of some of the complimentary therapies available and how I see them being effective in everyday existence including the balance of mind, body and spirit. Often we work hard then play hard and somewhere we forget to balance all of the other essential components which make life a pleasure to experience. As a direct result, we feel whacked by life and the cycle of suffering begins all over again. Over the coming months I hope to provide information which may assist in creating that balance for those who choose to do so. Namaste!
