WHO – This group literally is made up of Parents Friends and Supporters of Lesbians and Gays. They have also branched out though to include all queers.

WHY – To provide a support system for families of friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in their effort to understand, accept and support them with love and pride; To offer loving support and understanding to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people; To support and encourage the recognition of full human rights for them; To help parents, family members and friends to learn what the current members of P-Flag have already learnt and to help change attitudes and create an environment of understanding, so that all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people can live with dignity and respect.

WHAT ‘ Approximately 10% of the population are gay, lesbian or bisexual. That means that on average, someone in every extended family is either gay, lesbian or bisexual. Love and sexual relations between people of the same gender have been found in every known culture and society. These relationships are in every social, economic, racial and religious group. GLBT people work in all professions. They are our friends, our families and our colleagues. We all personally know GLBT people, but we may not be aware of it;

Being gay, lesbian or bisexual is as natural and healthy as being heterosexual. For the approximately 10% of Australians who are gay, lesbian or bisexual, it is natural part of who they are, and for them to be heterosexual would be unnatural; People are often aware of their sexual orientation at a very early age, whether they be heterosexual or homosexual;

None of the children were influenced or taught to be gay or lesbian by any other person; Family fears of ‘catching’ homosexuality or being recruited are without scientific foundation, but are generated by feelings of vulnerability, like most fears; and In families where homosexual children try to deny their sexuality, the ramifications can be enormous.
