Pink – Dear Mr. President (Sony/BMG)

While many music aficionados are loathe to admit that a pop musician evokes anything in them beyond the urge to dance, Pink will likely prove the exception. An open letter to American President George W. Bush, Dear Mr. President is not your typical pop attempt at a political song. It is a song that makes the political personal at a time when American polls show a growing distance between the government and the people. Pink’s questions in Dear Mr. President – including ‘What kind of father would take his own daughter’s rights away?’ and ‘What kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?’ – are the same questions on the lips of the three quarters of Americans who currently disapprove of their leader. Pink is joined in Dear Mr. President by lesbian duo and political protest song veterans the Indigo Girls, and the passionate vocals of all three will convince you that they believe in every word they sing.
