Raen

A new female foursome has emerged on the gay scene, going by the acronym Raen (Rachel, Amanda, Emily and Natalie). After a well-received single in the UK, the group has been booked to play Sydney’s Fairday. OUTinPerth chatted to Amanda about all things gay.

Are you looking forward to Fairday?

I’m especially excited about Fairday because I love Mardi Gras.

Have you ever made it ’til the sun came up at Mardi Gras?

I almost made it last year – I was trying to stay for Cyndi Lauper, but I didn’t make it. It was a little early in the morning.

What did you think of Olivia Newton-John?

I couldn’t get into the tent! I left it until too late, so we stood outside the tent and listened.

Will you be at Mardi Gras this year?

Definitely – I’m really excited about the Freemasons.

You’ve performed in quite a few gay venues in both the UK and Sydney, what do you think of gay audiences?

Gay audiences are really enthusiastic, they love to dance, and you get so much energy back. With our costumes we like to take risks and they love that… They are just a great crowd – we love our gay shows!
