There has been news today that a celebrity is expected to share that they are living with HIV. The celebrity is expected to make an announcement on US breakfast television.

We will not be reporting on this story until a public statement has been made. At OUTinPerth we believe that anyone who is living with HIV has the right to disclose, or not disclose, that information in their own time.

One of the biggest challenges in combating HIV is to reduce stigma and increase education.

Regrettably some of the coverage in the mainstream media has been unnecessarily sensationalist and lacking helpful information about the realities of living with HIV in 2015.

Journalists, bloggers and social media commentators may find the official guidelines for reporting on HIV/AIDS a useful resource.
