Sattler May Run Against Smith

Howard SattlerSacked radio presenter Howard Sattler has indicated that he may consider a future in politics, running against Labor member for Perth Stephen Smith in upcoming federal election.

Earlier this week the 6PR drive host was sacked following a controversial interview with Prime Minister Julia Gillard. Sattler repetitively asked if the Prime Minister’s partner Tim Mathieson was gay.

Speaking to Perth Now, Mr Sattler has indicated that he may pursue legal action against Fairfax Media for unfair dismissal and suggested that he may consider politics as his next career move.

Speaking to the ABC’s ‘7:30 WA’ on Friday Mr Smith said the radio station had done the right thing by dismissing Sattler over what he described as a ‘disgraceful’ interview.

Mr Smith has held the inner city seat since 1993 but is facing possible defeat at the upcoming election. The Liberal Party has announced that former Oil executive Daryl Moore will represent their party in the upcoming election. While researcher Jonathan Hallett will be representing The Greens.

Condemnation of Mr Sattler’s interview approach has been fairly wide spread on both sides of the political spectrum with most politicians and journalists agreeing that unsubstantiated rumours have no place in political discourse.
