4 For Falls: Four must-see acts at Falls Festival in Freo this January

Festival season is once again upon us, and Falls Festival is offering some of the best international musical acts to tour Australia this summer. Nestled in the shady greens of Fremantle, Falls is one of the most comprehensive weekend parties in the country, fully equipped with food trucks & gourmet fare, pop-up bars, beer gardens, interactive arts, markets, yoga classes and even a set from our boy Joel Creasey! In the interest of optimising your Falls experience, we’ve picked out our must-see musical selections from the incredible line-up to recommend to our readers.

EDIT: It has just been announced  at 4pm on 22/12 that Childish Gambino will no longer be attending the Fremantle leg of the Falls Festival tour.

The Avalanches

These Aussie legends kept the world hanging with for almost two decades since their first release, hoping for a second offering from the electro wizards. This year, we were blessed with the release of Wildflower which managed to live up to both critical and personal expectations of the group. Even if you didn’t grow up with Frontier Psychiatrist worming in your ear almost every day, we’d recommend you see them in case they return to hibernation.

ALUNAGEORGE

AlunaGeorge

One of the UK’s smoothest exports have been putting out music since 2009, and they are finally getting some hype outside of the motherland. The pair have put out incredible collaborations with Rustie, Disclosure, Baauer, Rae Sremmurd and plenty of their own bangers. With a diverse back catalogue and signature style, AlunaGeorge are certain to put on a show.

Client Liaison

These two boys ripped straight out of the ‘80s are two of the biggest characters on the Australian music scene. Having released their own clothing range this year, and preparing to launch a limousine venture, Client Liaison have forged their own brand and they’re doing it just right. Infused with the Aussie spirit, Client Liaison are making some of the most interesting music coming out of the country right now, so let’s show those Melbournians how we do it on the west coast.

donald glover

Childish Gambino

Whether you know him as the goofball jock from Community, his smash hit new show Atlanta or his ever-evolving musical career – Donald Glover is triple threat to watch out for. Having just released his latest album Awaken My Love to critical acclaim and announcing he has been cast as a young Lando Calrissian in a yet to be released Han Solo Star Wars spin-off, you won’t want to miss your chance to see this superstar on the Fremantle stage.

Falls Festival hits Fremantle on Saturday January 7th – Sunday January 8th. Tickets and the full line-up available from fallsfestival.com
