The Federal Senate Inquiry into the Marriage Equality Amendment Bill 2010 has released final figures on the submissions received by the closing date of April 2.
In total the committee received 75,000 submissions, with approximately 44,000 submissions in favour of marriage equality and 31,000 against. The committee noted that the majority of the submissions were form letters ( including form letters with personal stories attached); with approximately 43,000 of those in support and 23,000 against. Short submissions or general statements were the next largest category of submissions with 600 of these in favour and 6,500 against.
The House of Representatives Inquiry continues, with their online survey open until April 20.
