Cross Party Marriage Equality Group Launched

Cross PartyMembers of the nation’s three biggest political parties have joined together to create a cross party working group for marriage equality.

The Green’s Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, Labor’s Senator Louise Pratt and Liberal Senator Sue Boyce have joined forces in support of marriage equality.

“No one party can get marriage equality across the line so it is vital the supporters in each party work together.”

The trio announced their new collaboration at Parliament House this morning. The signing of an agreement to work together was witnessed by several same sex couples who have recently wed under the ACT’s same sex marriage legislation.

Rodney Croome from Australian Marriage Equality welcomed the creation of the cross party working group.

“Marriage equality has moved forward under conservative governments in the UK, New Zealand and NSW thanks to cross-party co-operation,” Croome said.

“Marriage equality is not a matter of left or right, it is about love, commitment and family – values we all share.”
