President of Uganda Declares War on Homosexuals

Museveni

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni announced at his national party retreat that he will sign a bill that enables sentences including life imprisonment for those accused of having sex with people of their own gender, failing to report LGBT people to the authorities or supporting LGBT people.

President Museveni in January halted the bill, stating that he would not pass it until he had received scientific evidence that homosexuality was not genetic or biological but a deviant behaviour.

President Museveni has now announced that he will sign the bill, adding “We shall have a war with the homosexual lobby, in the world, backed by these people and you.” His speech was met with considerable applause from the crowd.

President Museveni’s speech can be viewed at The Advocate.
