WATCH: First trailer for Stonewall movie

The first trailer has arrived for Roland Emmerich’s ‘Stonewall’ which depicts the events of the revolutionary 1969 Stonewall Riots.

The riots are remembered as a violent, bloody encounter which ignited the LGBT rights movement in New York City.

Emmerich, known for such films as ‘Independence Day’ and ‘Universal Soldier’ is a vocal member advocate of the LGBT community.

The film has already received criticisms for poorly representing people of colour, drag queens and transgender people. Noted drag queen Marsha P Johnson, widely believed to have been the first to fight back against the oppressive police has but a minor role in the film.
