Long-term resident of Ramsay Street, Stephanie Scully, is due to return to our screens this year with a brand new story line that the character has never addressed before.

Steph, portrayed by Carla Bonner, will be followed back to Erinsborough by a mysterious woman named Belinda – who is later confirmed to be Steph’s new partner.

Steph has been in a number of relationships over the years on Neighbours, most memorably perhaps with husband Max Hoyland, where she became a step mother of two.

Stephanie’s character has never been in a relationship with a female on the show, or mentioned a queer identity.

“The way that it has been written, it’s very sensitive and certainly not smutty,” Carla Bonner told PinkNews, “I’m very happy with how it plays out.”

“If it contributes to normalising same-sex relationships in some way, that’s great.”

Neighbours features two openly gay characters besides the now-returning Stephanie, including stripper Aaron Brennan and Aboriginal Australian Nate Kinski.
