Review: Thievery Corporation @ Chevron Festival Gardens

THIEVERY

Atmosphere makes or breaks a live performance and Thievery Corporation’s stage presence and eclectic mix of complex and intricate electronic sounds certainly moved Saturday night’s crowd. The crowd pumped, moved and were transcended through 20 years of extraordinary sounds and vocals.

Not expected was such a large set of vocal performers; each taking you on a journey of their own through their style, genre and meaningful lyrics. At moments you could have been in many a different country in the world.

The set list was amazing and interesting with style and included such greats as ‘Hare Krsna’, ‘Radio Retaliation’ the soft soulful sounds of  ‘33 Degree’,  ‘Sweet Tides’ and the grand finale of ‘The Richest Man in Babylon’

Best known for their Bossa Nova style, Saturdays performance was a true mix of afro/dub/reggae/hip hop and more.

If you were a fan of Geisha nightclub in the 90’s then you would most definitely have grooved to the sounds of Thievery Corporation. This concert certainly left you feeling that you had just joined several hundred of your best nightclub buddies and been transported back to your early twenties, lost in time.

When, and not if you see Thievery Corporation listed on a bill somewhere, run for those tickets. This was exceptional.
