Subtitled Playing for Advantage, the show’s third season sees the title character moving into a new role at the National Crime Commission to head an investigation into gambling and match fixing in competitive sport.

The series is set two years after we last saw Janet King, she’s been away training prosecutors in Fiji and returns to join her mentor Tony Gillies (Peter Kowawitz) in his new role.

A few familiar faces from previous series return. Her former right-hand man Richard Stirling (Hamish Michael) is now on the other side of the fence acting as a defence barrister for accused sportsmen, while calculating Owen Mitchell (Damian Walshe-Howling) is now head of the Department of Public Prosecutions.

New cast members include Don Hany who plays a sporting hero, while Susie Porter joins the show as a high powered publicist.

Marta Dusseldorp’s character Janet King first appeared in the 2011 ABC series Crownies. Characters from the show have continued on in three series Janet King.

Janet King returns at 8:30pm Thursday 25 May on ABC TV.
