Love Letters: Michelle, Shelley and little Baby H

The opponents of marriage equality have claimed that the survey on marriage equality is about everything from education programs, to freedom of speech, to fighting political correctness.

We know that the call for equality is simply just recognising the love between two people, and their desire the formalise that commitment before their friends and families.

As we fight for the right to be able to get married to our loved ones, we’re sharing stories of LGBTI couples, and we want you to send us your story, like many couples have already done.

Meet Michelle, Shelley and Baby H!

Who are you?

Michelle, Shelley, and Baby H.

How did you meet?

We met at a mutual friends 40th birthday and we only had eyes for each other the whole night.

How long have you been a couple?

We have been together for 1 year and 10 months.

What’s your favourite thing about each other?

Michelle: My favourite thing about Shelley is how she is able to be present for everyone she meets and provide people with genuine and unending love and support and the way she loves our daughter with her whole heart.

Shelley: My favourite thing about Michelle is her caring beautiful heart.

What has been a big moment in your relationship?

The birth of our daughter. Shelley caught her in the birthing pool and handed her to me. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

Why do you want to see marriage equality in Australia?

We want to have the opportunity to marry each other one day, but mostly we want our children to grow up knowing that Australia is full of love and that their family is seen as just as valid as everyone else.

How do you foresee your wedding day?

A beautiful day with our friends and family present to celebrate our love for and commitment to each other.
