The book is scheduled to be out in 2019, so a bit of wait yet.

Rannels said he’s very excited about putting pen to paper, declaring he’d always dreamed of becoming an author.

“Being an author has always been a dream of mine and I am incredibly honored to be given this opportunity. I am excited to share these stories and I will try my absolute best not to embarrass my family. Too badly.”

The actor is best known for his role as Elijah on Girls,  a role he played through out the show’s five season run. Prior to that he played one half of a gay couple on the TV sitcom The New Normal.

Rannells has spent a lot of his career making musical theatre. He performed in the local theatre and touring productions of Thoroughly Modern Millie, Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Miss Saigon. He also played Bob Guadio on the touring of production of Jersey Boys, a role he later returned to on Broadway.

The Book of Mormon gave Rannells his big break on Broadway, he originated the role of Elder Price, and was nominated for a Tony Award. He briefly replaced Jonathan Groff in the hit musical Hamilton, and has most recently been appearing in Falsettos. He also returned to the lead of Hedwig and the Angry Inch when it was on Broadway.

Rannels got a guest spot on the new series of Will & Grace, where he played ex-gay Reggie.
