New Board for GRAI

In late August GRAI (Gay Retirement Association Inc.) held a very successful AGM. This was successful in attendance and trying a new structure of an afternoon time spot with a guest speaker. There was no shortage of good conversation or food.

The afternoon kicked off with a tour of St Michael’s Residential Care, the location of the AGM. Paul Van Lieshout Hunt from Pride and by far the youngest member at the AGM, delivered a thought provoking talk entitled ‘Reaching Out: Building Community with GLBTI Elders’.

The talk resulted in questions and discussion especially on how to link with younger people and the experience of growing up gay today as compared with the growing up of older members of our community.

The AGM saw the election of Dean Smith and Brad McKay, two new members to the Board, as well as the retirement of Malcolm Fialho, who has been a stalwart with the Board and a GRAI member from the start.

Executive positions for the forthcoming year are: Jude Comfort – chair, June Lowe – deputy chair and newsletter editor, Brett Tizard – secretary, Stuart Pekin – treasurer. Deb Sinclair Lane, Leonie Stickland and the two new members make up the remainder of the board.
