Queensland AIDS Council changes its name to reflect its range of services

The Queensland AIDS Council has announced it’s changing name to become the Queensland Council for LGBTI Health (QC).

The organisation conducted community consultation amongst our communities across the state in advance of the change. The consultation sought community feedback on both the name change and on the formulation of the organisation’s 2020-2024 Strategic Plan.

The organisation said that as the body looks back on it’s 30th years of service it needs to adapt and change to meet the current and future needs of their clients.

The move follows other HIV/AIDS organisations rebranding in recent years, the AIDS Council of New South Wales is now known as ACON, while Victoria’s body renamed itself Thorne Harbour Health after two of its founding members.

The WA AIDS Council has also begun exploring the option of rebranding the organisation.  Earlier this year a number of potential new names were put forward.

The suggestions include just maintaining their abbreviation WAAC, changing to becoming the West Australian Health Council – which will sound the same when you pronounce the abbreviation: WAHC, or going with a totally new approach, rebranding as Sparc Health.
