In the USA, Republican law maker Wesley Goodman has resigned after he was caught having consensual sex with another man in his office.

The Ohio legislator had been a champion of family groups and taken a strong anti-LGBTI stance during his time in office. Goodman had previously endorsed “natural marriage” as the only form of marriage. The politician had previously expressed a desire to run for Congress in the future.

Since announcing his resignation there have been several accusations that Goodman may have previously acted inappropriately around campaign volunteers. Including a suggestion that he once fondled an 18 year old campaign volunteer.

Goodman released a statement apologising for his actions and requesting privacy for his family at a difficult time.

“We all bring our own struggles and our own trials into public life,” Goodman said in the statement. “That has been true for me, and I sincerely regret that my actions and choices have kept me from serving my constituents and our state in a way that reflects the best ideals of public service.”

Goodman’s wife Bethany is an Assistant Director at the March to Life organisation, an annual event that opposes abortion.

The 33 year old former political staffer was elected to the Ohio legislature earlier this year.
