Boy George plays new Culture Club tunes to fans

Boy George gave his fans a surprise insight into new tunes that Culture Club are working on for their forthcoming album when he logged on for an unexpected Instagram live chat.

George chatted to fans and answered their questions on a variety of topics, before launching into playing some unreleased music.

One fan asked if George was still friends with fellow 80’s artist Marilyn? George said they we’re not currently on speaking terms and had had a falling out, but a song they’d written for Marilyn has just been recorded by another singer.

After playing a sample of the tune, George moved on to playing some tunes from Culture Club’s recent recording sessions.

The first tune had a laid back reggae vibe and as George sang along, the tune got the thumbs up from fans who’d logged in for the video broadcast. The singer reassured fans they wouldn’t have long to wait for the long anticipated record.

“The Culture Club album is coming this year.” George said. “It’s being worked on right now, the band are recording in London, I’m going to have stuff sent out to Australia, I’m going to do vocals in Australia, so it’s going to be exciting.”

George is all set to make his second appearance as a coach on the Australian version of The Voice, alongside returning coaches Kelly Roland and Delta Goodrem. This year Joe Jonas will take a seat in a big red chair, replacing Seal.

Fans asked George if he’d consider visiting Lebanon, which he said he was open to, recounting how much he loved the food on a previous trip.

Another fan asked if he was a fan of singer Stevie Nicks, which prompted George to highlight his recording of Fleetwood Mac’s Go Your Own Way, which appears on his Ordinary Alien album.

George then played a second new song from Culture Club, which was a slow groove number with a chilled out vibe.

Fans of Culture Club have heard a number of new tunes from the band over the last few years, they’ve played three live shows in Perth and each time showcased new tunes alongside their well known hits. Like I Used To, Human Zoo, Different Man and Bitchface are some of the songs fans have heard live.

In December the band released a live album recorded at London’s Wembley Arena during their 2016 world tour. It featured two of the new tunes, plus a reworked version of The War Song and a cover of T-Rex’s Bang a Gong (Get it On).
