‘Call By Your Name’ nominated for Best Picture Oscar

The romantic queer love story Call Me By Your Name is one of nine films nominated for Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards. Queer themed film Moonlight was the top film in 2017, could it be back to back successes for gay dramas?

Timothée Chalamet has also picked up a Best Actor nomination for his role in the film.  James Ivory has been nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work adapting André Aciman’s acclaimed novel.

Sufan Steven’s song from the film The Mystery of Love will complete in the Best Original Song category.

The Shape of Water received the most nominations, it will be represented in thirteen different categories. Other strong contenders to sweep the awards include Three Billboards Outside Ebbing – Missouri, and the war drama Dunkirk.

Timothée Chalamet faces some tough competition to take out the best actor award, also nominated in Gary Oldman who has been lauded with praise for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. Sir Daniel Day Lewis is also in the running for his role in Phantom Thread. The actor has previously won the award on three occasions and recently announced his retirement from acting.
