Corona Main Press ShotNineties dance music star Corona is coming to Perth.

After working in a bank in her early 20’s, Brazilian singer Olga De Souza booked a trip to Italy. Here she met some music producers and was asked to lend her vocals to some songs.

The band she fronted, Corona, scored a massive hit with ‘Rhythm of the Night’ and followed it with several other Euro-pop hits.

Today the singer says everyone calls her Corona, so much that she’s happy to take on the moniker, but when she first headed to Europe becoming a world famous singer was not on her agenda.

“I never thought this would happen to me, I just went to Italy to have a good time. I never thought I’d be recording songs, to me it was a little joke. I didn’t think it would be so big and become a worldwide number one.” Corona said.

“I don’t know how many times I’ve sung that song now, I even sing it when I’m
at home hanging out the washing.” Corona laughs.

Despite ‘Rhythm of the Night being her best known song, Corona picks one of the band’s follow up hits as her favourite to perform.

“My favoutite is ‘Baby Baby’, for me it’s about enjoyment and when I sing it now, I sing it very slow, but then I also sing it fast too!’

The ‘90s Mania tour will see Corona performing alongside other well-known performers from the era including C+C Music Factory, Snap and Culture Beat. Corona said she’s not surprised that people flock to ‘90s reunion shows.

“The ‘90s were so much fun and people keep in their hearts because we all had so much joy and fun.

“Now people share that with their sons and daughters so our shows have a lot of young people who have learned about their songs from their parents.” Corona said.

Corona tell us that she’s incredibly excited to be heading to Australia for the first time saying she has butterflies in her stomach ahead of the trip. ‘I cannot wait to be in Australia!” Corona screams with enthusiasm.

‘90s Mania is at Metro City on Friday 19th March 2016, tickets available from www.oztix.com.au
