Eurovision check-in: Delta Goodrem is talking up Australia’s chances

Delta Goodrem is getting ready to take to the stage for Eurovision 2026. Ahead of representing Australia in Vienna the singer has been doing the media rounds in Europe to drum up support for her song Eclipse.

Appearing in the UK’s This Morning Goodrem said she’d been asked if she’d be interested in being Australia’s singer in the past, but this time round the stars aligned as she was recording her new album.

Goodrem also noted that the competition would see her potentially going up against Boy George who is part of the entry from San Marino. The two were previously coaches on The Voice – Australia in the past.

San Marino is in the first semi-final, while Australia is performing in the second outing. So if Boy George and Delta are to face off it’ll be in the Grand Final.

But will Delta be the last Australian entry at Eurovision?

Eurovision Asia launches

Eurovision has announced their launching an new Asian focused version of the competition. The first outing of Eurovision Song Contest Asia will be on Saturday 14 November.

The inaugural edition will be held in Bangkok and the first release of country’s taking part includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. Will Australia join in too? Why isn’t it called Asiavision?

“For many years, I dreamed of performing on the big stage at the Eurovision Song Contest, and today my dream has finally come true. This moment is the result of years of hard work and unwavering belief.

“I hope my song inspires a sense of freedom, fills you with energy, and reminds you that sometimes, achieving your dreams only takes one brave step out of your comfort zone.” Simón said ahead of his song being revealed last month.  

Armenia’s song for Vienna 2026 is a rebellious anthem about breaking free from the monotony of a suffocating routine and finally choosing yourself and your dreams over your comfort zone. The track is one of the more infused tunes in the competition.

Veronica Fursaro will sing ‘Alice’ for Switzerland

They hosted the competition in 2025, so Switzerland will be hoping that singer Veronica Fursaro can bring the trophy home one more time. Her tune Alice was created in collaboration with British producer Charlie McClean, and appears on Veronica’s most recent album, Looking For Connection. They’ve created a new version for the competition.

Portugal’s entry stand out from the crowd

Portugal will be represented with the song Rosa, performed by the quintet Bandidos do Cante. They are a group made up of Miguel Costa, Duarte Farias, Francisco Raposo, Luís Aleixo and Francisco Pestana. They sing in a traditional Cante Alentejano style. The band put out their debut album in January.

Monroe is getting musical for France

Through Regarde!, France wants to celebrate the richness of all its musical cultures. From the emotional power of opera to the theatricality of great musicals and the modernity of pop. Their entry will see Monroe aiming to showcase many French musical styles on the European stage.

Monroe comes from a classical music background and has some impressive operatic vcoals. France has won Eurovision on five occasions, but their last win was in 1977. Can Monroe break the long drought?

As Eurovision approaches all the previous artists who have built their profile through participation in the competition tend to release new music.

Daði Freyr goes down in Eurovision history as one of the famous acts who did not win the competition – but maybe should have, could have or would have.

When Eurovision 2020 was cancelled due the COVID pandemic the Icelandic musician and his band Daði & Gagnamagnið were the hot favourites to win the competition with their song Think About Things. They made it to the competition the following year with a different track, but the temperature had cooled.

The Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 12, 14 and 16 May at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, Austria.
