FC Coordinator Wins Youth Worker of the Year

Freedom Centre Coordinator Dani Wright last night was announced as joint winner of the prestigious WA Minister for Youth’s Youth Worker of the Year Award as part of Youth Week Celebrations.

Joining the Freedom Centre as a volunteer in 2005, Wright became the coordinator in 2007 As the Freedom Centre Coordinator,  Wright has overseen the development of the groundbreaking FC online forum which provided mediated support to diverse sexuality sex and/or gender (DSSG) young people, introduced programs for young ATSI people who are DSSG, developed an evaluation tool for use with peer-based service models, introduced skill-sharing sessions, created Epic Retreats as well as providing ongoing support to DSSG youth through the Freedom Centre programs and drop in centre.

Wright described winning the award as quite humbling, telling told OUTinPerth,

‘It’s really lovely to be acknowledged and it’s and amazing award to win.’

Wright is also on the boards of the National LGBTI Health Alliance and GLCS WA; WA State Director of the National LGBTI Health Alliance; Chair for the Mental Health & Suicide Prevention Advisory Group; Community Representative for Freedom Centre, Member of Equal Opportunity Commission Working Group for Gender and Sexuality Based Bullying in WA, and an Advisor on the WA LGBTI OneLife Suicide Prevention Community Action Plan and was Pride Patron in 2011.
