The Channel is a membership based giving circle where member’s contributions are pooled to create grants for worthy causes. A shortlist of projects is voted on by members of the circle.

Among the projects in their current round is The RIFF Project. A new scheme which would see top local musicians, like the fabulous Abbe May, work with young LGBTI people to help create songs about their experiences.

The project aims to help young people create artistic outputs that explain how to help LGBTQIA+ young people cope when thinking about issues of self-harm or suicide, in their own words and music. At the end of the project an EP featuring the songs created would be released.

The RIFF Project would be delivered through the WA AIDS Council’s Freedom Centre, and is one of three projects shortlisted for the grant.

It’s competing against a queer youth festival in Brisbane and a project which focuses on giving a voice to queer people who have a disability.

Members of the giving circle will now vote on which project will receive the $10,000 grant. Projects for this round of the fund and to address the theme of ‘Pride and Resilience’.
