Rio Tinto signs new three-year deal to support PrideFEST

Rio Tinto has signed a three-year deal to support Western Australia’s PrideFEST.

The mining company plans to have a hundred of their staff march in next month’s Pride Parade through the streets of Northbridge.

CEO of Rio Tinto Iron Ore, Simon Trott, spoke earlier this week about how importantly the company values its LGBTIQA+ employees.

“As one of Western Australia’s largest employers, we deeply value our LGBTQIA+ team members and remain committed to building a safe and inclusive environment where everyone can be themselves,” Simon Trott said.

“We are really excited to be part of this year’s PrideFEST Parade and we encourage everyone to come along and celebrate with us.”

Pride WA CEO Dr Lauren Butterly said the new deal showed that Rio Tinto valued not only their LGBTIQA+ employees but also the wider LGBTIQA+ communities in Western Australia.

“This partnership paves the way for greater acceptance and inclusion and shows that Rio Tinto values their LGBTQIA+ employees, as well as our Western Australian LGBTQIA+ community.”

“Supporting celebrations such as PrideFEST helps employees to feel proud and empowered to be themselves, especially at their place of work.”

New deal with Perth is OK! announced

A new partnership deal has also been announced with media outlet Perth is OK!

Casey Edmonds, Account Director at Perth is OK! told Campaign Brief that they were excited to be working with Pride WA.

“We’re incredibly proud to partner with PrideFEST 2024, an event that highlights the strength and diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community in WA.

“At Perth is OK!, we believe in celebrating inclusion and supporting initiatives that make our community feel seen, safe, and empowered. PrideFEST is a fantastic opportunity to bring people together, and we’re excited to help amplify this important celebration.”

Pride is celebrated in Perth throughout November, but the PrideFEST kicks off on Friday 15th November with an opening night party. The Parade is on Saturday 23rd November.
