Remember that old urban legend, the one about the babysitter who gets the prank phone calls and then she traces them and discovers that said calls are coming from inside the house? Well, in a similar vein comes Joanna Murray-Smith’s ‘The Female of the Species’, a play which pits this spine-chilling urban legend against the very factual home invasion experienced by Germaine Greer back in 2000. Hero-worship turns to bloodthirsty blame as a renowned feminist is confronted by a deranged fan in her country home. Add a dash of dark humour and this play by Black Swan Theatre impresses audiences from June 21 until July 6. www.bstc.com.au
