WA Gender Project

WA Gender Project (WAGP) started as a very small scale grass roots lobby group in 2006 – due to the efforts of four young trans activists. Since WAGP’s inception, the group has been very busy, making numerous submissions to HREOC Inquiry and the EOC Review, as well as lobbying for change within specific government departments, particularly the Department of Foreign Affairs. WAGP was also pivotal in the development of the inaugural TTI survey run by Curtin’s school of public health.

Currently, WAGP is focused on lobbying for changes to the current Gender Reassignment Act (2001) as well as to see the implementation of the EOC review recommendations in relation to gender identity. They are also pushing Attorney General to fill the vacancies currently existing on the WA Gender Reassignment Board so that trans people can have their sex amended (currently all applications are on hold).

WAGP was incorporated in May 2007 and this month they launched their website: www.wagenderproject.org. To find out more about the group’s work as well as how you can get involved, just log on!
