Parton wrote the tune way back in 1973 and since then it’s been one of her most popular songs. In fact more artists have covered Jolene than any of the other songs Parton has written including I Will Always Love You.

The White Stripes, Strawberry Switchblade, Olivia Newton-John, Miley Cyrus, Sophie Ellis Bexter, Katy B, Ellie Goulding and British trip hop band One Dove are some of the artists who have taken on the song.

The tune has even been remixed for the dance floor, Norwegian DJ Todd Terje created a very lush version of the song which he debuted at a party where Dolly was the honouree.

Dolly Parton has just released her 43rd record Pure and Simple which features strip down arrangements of new and previously recorded material. Parton is currently on tour across Canada and the USA.
