Cosima de Vito – This is Now – MGM

Fresh from wowing Perth audiences in the role of ‘Mother Nature’ in the recent production of Hair at the Regal Theatre, Cosima De Vito delivers one of the best surprises of 2007. Her second foray into the recording studio follows on from the success of her self-titled album in 2004 and the result is the beautifully-crafted album, This is Now. Track one, Keep it Natural, already a major hit on the dance floor, kicks the album off like a rocket and the sassy pacing of the album from dance to ballad to R&B is a magical mix, capably handled by former Escape Club members Trevor Steel and John Holliday in the writing and production. Cosima wrote six out of the ten tracks. My favourite picks: Forever Young, which was written for her mother when she was just 14, I’m Free and Left Waiting (written by the Veronicas). This album deserves to win in every category in next year’s ARIA Awards. A true gem!! -TL
