The Vaudevillians Camp Sing-a-long

The VaudevilliansJinkx Monsoon, the raining Queen of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ and her piano playing side kick Major Scales embody two new characters in their cabaret show that has been a huge success off Broadway and toured across Canada.

Monsoon is 1920’s chanteuse Kitty Witless, while Scales is her composer husband Dan Von Dandy. The pair who were big stars of Vaudeville in the 1920’s were frozen in an avalanche accident while touring Antarctica. Now thanks to global warming they’ve been defrosted only to discover that while they were in hibernation everyone else has run off with their songs.

As Kitty Witless explains to the audience, most people are unaware that the song ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ is about the invention of the steam iron.

Over a 90 minute journey Witless and Von Dandy share comedic tales of their show business management and share drink with the audience while they work their way through their many hits – all delivered in a 1920’s style.

Monsoon is impressive singing live, no lyp-syncing going on here, and Scales can certainly hold the stage on his own. This is a fun show that definitely deserved it’s standing ovation at the conclusion of the performance. The Vaudevillians in fun, engaging and features songs that you know all the words to.

The Vaudelvillians is playing at 9:00pm Teatro in the Culture Centre as part of Fringe World until January 31st.
