Croatia has registered it’s first civil union, a major set forward for the predominately Catholic country.

While the country voted last year to preserve the definition of marriage as “being between a man and a woman”, the government also agreed to make civil unions available to same sex couples.

Adoption by same sex couples is not permitted in the country.

The first civil union came on the weekend as the country also celebrated its first Pride march.

The couple were not named in local media reports but it was reported that the country’s Administration Minister attended the civil union ceremony and presented the couple with matching ties.
