NSW Liberal MP Craig Laundy has changed his mind on the allowing a conscience vote on the issue of same sex marriage.

The member for Reid had previously said that while he was personally against marriage equality, he did support the Liberal party allowing a conscience vote.

Now Laundy has flipped his position telling the Sydney Morning Herald that a conscience vote would lead to parliamentarians being vilified by people who disagree with them.

Laundy said that members of parliament, particularly those in marginal seats would be at greater risk if the emotive issue was to be the subject of a conscience vote.

Now that he’s served his first year in parliament Laundy has declared that he has a better idea of how politics works and that pressure from lobbyists can lead to politicians voting against what they believe.
