Panti Bliss to Appear at Mardi Gras

Irish drag queen Panti Bliss is set to join an exciting line up of performers at the 2015 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

Bliss made headlines last year after making a speech addressing homophobia after a play at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. A video of the speech went viral, and became so popular it was eventually remixed by the Pet Shop Boys.

In September she returned to the topic in a TED talk that was published to YouTube in January to wide acclaim.

Her stand up show ‘High Heels in Low Places’ chronicles her life after ‘Pantigate’, as some have christened her media furore. She will be telling tales of infamy, fame and Ireland’s seedy underbelly.

“I can’t wait to bring my old lady glamour to Sydney for Mardi Gras and make a fool of myself over some cheeky Aussie bloke I meet at a barbie. That has been my lifelong dream! But before I elope to the Northern Territories with Bruce, I’ll be taking part in the MG parade and doing some shows in The Vanguard, and I’m equally as excited about that. And so is Bruce. He’s very supportive of my career.” Bliss said.

High Heels in Low Places is at The Vanguard on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th of March 2015. Panti Bliss will also be appearing on the new Irish float at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras on March 7th.
