West Australian Opera Chairman Terry Bowen shared his excitement about the decision.

““Brad has worked with West Australian Opera as a guest conductor over a number of years and will continue its reputation as one of the best and most nurturing companies in Australia,” Mr Bowen said.

“We are particularly excited that Brad will be leading the artistic direction of the company in the lead up to its anniversary in 2017.”

Cohen is an Australian conductor of international repute based in the United Kingdom. He will conduct ‘Faust’ and be in residence in Perth for some of each rehearsal period during ‘Madama Butterfly’, ‘The Barber of Seville’ and ‘The Marriage of Figaro.’

‘The Barber of Seville’ will be taking place in the Supreme Court Gardens for a thrilling installment of Opera in the Park.

The opera, set in 18th century Spain, is a classic love triangle tale. Count Almaviva is determined to woo the beautiful Rosina without revealing his wealth, with the assistance  of the young barber Figaro. Meanwhile, Rosina’s elderly guardian Dr. Bartolo has plans to marry her himself.

‘The Barber of Seville’ is a prequel to Mozart’s ‘The Marriage of Figaro.

‘The Barber of Seville’ will be performed at the Supreme Court Gardens on Friday March 6th at 8pm and will be broadcast to to the Northbridge Piazza and regional venues in Geraldton, Bunbury, Esperance, Broome, Margaret River, Merredin, Port Headland, Carnarvon, Karratha and Moora.
