Russian Maxim magazine prints list of 'forgivable' gay men

Neil Patrick HarrisRussian magazine Maxim – owned by a different publisher to its US cousin – have posted a list of ‘Gays We Respect‘ onto their online publication.

The list catalogues which gay men the publication is willing to “forgive” for their homosexuality in light of their contribution to society and the arts.

“We, men, do not consider men who love men to be men,” the piece begins, “but there are exceptions. There are gays who have earned our respect and the right to remain real men in our eyes.”

The list includes intellectual and comedian Stephen Fry, ‘Fight Club’ author Chuck Palahniuk and WWII code-breaker Alan Turing, among others.

“We weren’t sure about including Neil Patrick Harris in the last – after all, he declared himself a “happy gay” in 2006 but his performance as Barney Stinson in the series ‘How I Met Your Mother’ hasn’t left us indifferent.”

The article continues to wax lyrical about Harris’ performance as promiscuous ladykiller Barney Stinson, gushing over his ability to simulate a caricature of a heterosexual man.

“It’s impossible not to respect someone who elevated the hunt for girls into a true art, who systematized all the tricks and techniques and created the “Bro Code”. Even if we has just acting the role. But how he acted!”

The United States’ Maxim magazine have condemned the article, saying it is “entirely against (our) views”.
