The film follows four couples, including DuVall and Natasha Lyonne reprising their on-screen romance from ‘Cheerleader’, whose group vacation becomes an intervention on one pair’s marriage. ‘Arrested Development’ star Alia Shawkat, ‘Parks & Recreation”s Ben Schwartz and Cobie Smulders round out the cast, as well as fellow ‘Cheerleader’ star Melanie Lynskey.

DuVall, who recently played the stoney-faced lover of President Meyer’s daughter Kathryn on ‘Veep’, told The Advocate that developing ‘The Intervention’ was a way for her to play a lesbian character that is true to her experience.

“I’ve played a lot of gay characters, but I haven’t really played a gay character that is gay in a way that is the gay that I feel like I am, if that makes sense,” DuVall said.

DuVall had not intented to write, direct and star in the film, but in the end DuVall realised this was her story to tell.

“When I tried to find someone to direct it, it just didn’t feel like anybody would be able to tell that story the way I wanted it told.”

‘The Intervention’ debuted earlier this month at Outfest in the United States, with an international theatrical release due for late August. Check out the trailer below.
