Netflix head explains why we won't see Sense8 season three

Fans of the Wachowski siblings sci-fi thriller Sense8 were shocked to discover that the beloved program would not be renewed for a third season earlier this month.

Almost 500,000 people signed an online petition to revive the queer-centric show, but higher-ups at Netflix have issued a response, and it’s not going to happen.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos told audiences at the Producer’s Guild of America conference that the show was “incredibly ambitious.”

“It broke all kinds of new ground, being a show rooted in concepts of gender identity… They made it a beautiful show,” Sarandos said of the team behind Sense8.

“We did two seasons of it and a movie in between. Similarly, the audience was very passionate but just not large enough to support the economics of something that big, even in our platform.”

The show’s avid fan base was comprised of many LGBTQIA fans who celebrated the programs representation of queer identities, and as a platform for trans-powered stories under the guidance of The Matrix creators Lana and Lilly Wachowski.
