WA Opera to set the fox among the chickens in The Cunning Little Vixen

The West Australian Opera launch their 2018 season with their debut production of a rarely-seen work from Czech composer Leoš Janáček.

The Cunning Little Vixen reflects on the circle of birth, life and death, as well as the connections between the world of human beings and the rest of the animal kingdom.

The opera follows the adventures of the vixen Sharp Ears, and her interactions with the other animals of the forest, as well as the humans she encounters along the way.

An allegory for the human impact on the natural world, Sharp Ears’ story is a poignant reminder of nature’s ability to inspire and nurture us.

Emma Pearson will take on the role of Sharp Ears, following her stunning portrayal of the title character in Lucia di Lammermoor last year.

Pearson will be joined by soprano Rachelle Durkin as Gold Spur the fox, and baritone James Clayton as the Forrester, as well as the West Australian Opera Chorus and their friends at the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. This production is sung in English, and presented with English surtitles.

The Cunning Little Vixen will be at His Majesty’s Theatre on April 21, 24, 26 & 28. Tickets and more information available from waopera.asn.au
