The US Library Association has announced it’s most complained about books of 2018, and topping the list are books that feature transgender people and same-sex relationships.

Alex Gino’s book George which is about a transgender child topped the list, and coming in at second place was a parody book written by comedian John Oliver.

On his TV show Last Week Tonight Oliver poked fun about US Vice President Mike Pence who had written a children’s book about a rabbit that lives at the White House. Oliver, wrote a second story featuring rabbitt Marlon Bundo, giving him a same-sex partner. Pence has long been opposed to LGBTI rights.

Money raised by Oliver’s book was donated to charities supporting people living with HIV and programs that support LGBTI youth.

Also making the list was Gayle E Pitman’s and Kristyna Litten’s This Day in June and David Leviathan’s Two Boys Kissing. Both books contain LGBTI related content.

In Australia lobby group Binary is campaigning to have certain book featuring transgender people to be removed from public libraries.
