Pictures of the Floating World

The old school charm that are ukiyo-e (which translates literally to ‘pictures of the floating world’) form the basis of the new exhibition being presented by fabulous local artist Jo Darbyshire. This new collection, entitled Floating World, draws direct inspiration from Japanese woodblock prints to create a series of paintings that are rich, textured, dreamlike and seemingly fold in on themselves while being layered with references and meaning. These vibrant yet stark works will appear at Indigenart – Mossenson Galleries located at 115 Hay Street from Wednesday March 11 until April 4. www.johnstongallery.com.au
