Thongs

ThongsI was praying that my first fashion assignment might be a column on a variety of fashion do’s and don’ts. Of course, that list would vary from this season’s new peep toes (yummy!), skull scarf’s (victim and proud!), vintage tees (how fashionably correct?), finding the “right” outfit at Supre (come on.. be honest people) to Britney in Deep Space Nine or even a picture of Kate Moss swilling a mini bottle of champs while dripping in blood (gawd bless NW, don’t you just love Wednesdays?).

Then I thought, I might be sent on some hardcore fashion assignment to New York,  pounding the pavement to unveil next season’s Manolo Blahnick’s or Jimmy Choo’s (ok, ok I had mistakenly taken my Sudafed day tab before bedtime again,  don’t you just hate that?)

As you can imagine, when I was told I’d be writing a 300 word column on thongs,  the words  juuchzy darling  popped into my head and next came images of Olivia Newton John roller-skating around a giant pink neon love heart (it was actually Sunday afternoon and I had fallen asleep through Xanadu…. again).

To be frank, Id never really given the “thong market” a second thought but after some intensive research (a redbull and an 8.30am start at Galleria a far cry from the pavements of NYC), I was delighted at what one can only describe as the “flip flop” revolution!

Who would have thought that thongs would now come in terry towelling (gush!) and so cheap (huh?), pastels, bling bling, sequence, pokodots, cherries, burnt orange (so now!), animal print and camouflage with hang on to your tiara and your mascara boys, breathable leather lining!!  I was quick to realise that there’s a new level of casual going on, and in my search for the perfect thong, it became apparent (with great delight and of course, one moment short of a caffeine high) that long gone are the days were thongs are a fashion “No No”  most commonly associated with bum cracks and building sites!

Lets face it, flip flops, thongs, “havaianas”, beach combers or what many refer to as “one strap away from a sandal” have now risen to the same status as handbags and shoes you can never have too many and as written in the 15th fashion testament never is a social occasion too glamour puss for the new number one accessory, a great set of flippies!

With less than 12  sleeps till summer,  the onslaught of naked feet is just around the corner and dare I say,  it’s time to get your tootsies out of those winter woolies and make that well deserved appointment with your beautician (bless! ).  With such an uber cool range of thongs currently available here are my picks for this season’s flippies that are sure to keep your feet all loved up with more places to go…
