Review: Run Girl Run!

Run Girl Run‘Run Girl Run’ is a Fringe World show that is a lot of fun, filled with laughs and underneath it all it provokes you to have a good hard think about things.

Three actors appear on stage wearing underwear, they slip on some boots and begin to walk on three treadmills. The friends chat, they talk about he things people talk about, relationships, work, finding a good house, dates, the usual stuff.

They share a beer, slip on some board shorts (an impressive move on a treadmill when your wearing boots), they chat some more they have another beer, things begin to get more masculine. Our journey has begun, these treadmills aren’t cast anywhere, but we’re off on a trip through masculinity and femininity that will provoke you to consider your own behaviour and gender norms.

There is a great subtly in the performances of Clare Phillips, Laura Hughes and Tom Browne. The trio walk a fine line between carefully crafted performances filled with delicate movement and naturalistic portrayals of people that morph into outrageous over the top craziness, and then back again.

If you’re after a show that will keep you thinking for a few days, this one will give you as lot more to think about than the endless offerings of burlesque around the festival.

‘Run Girl Run’ is at the PICA Performance Space at 9:30pm until Saturday 1st February. Grab tickets at Fringe World. Check out our interview with Tom Browne.
